WELCOME!

greenUP! 2008 is underway!

greenUP! is a springtime promotional campaign, in April and May, that helps identify and promote events and activities related to environmental education and public action. For the rest of the year, website is maintained to help direct Visitors to the various organizations for information year-round.

Our site is continually being updated with news and events so please visit Us again! and consider joining the greenUP! community for news and updates!

Our Mission is to do what we can to ensure the sustainability of our Region by expanding and strengthening community awareness of events, organizations, initiatives, resources and opportunities for action and involvement that make an environmentally sustainable and economically vibrant community.

Our Region: In October, 2006, the American Institute of Architects N. Nevada section (AIANN), Truckee Donner Public Utility District, Sunrise Sustainable Resources Group, North Lake Tahoe Resort Association conducted a Sustainability Design Assessment for the Reno, Carson and Lake Tahoe Region with the AIA Center for Communities by Design.

greenUP! community includes the Lake Tahoe Region, Truckee, the Truckee Meadows, Reno, Sparks, Fernley, Fallon, Dayton, Minden, Gardnerville, Carson City, Silver Springs and all the towns and communities in the Lake Tahoe Region, Truckee River and Carson River watersheds. For all of Us downstream, we depend upon Lake Tahoe, the Sierras, Carson and Truckee Rivers for our water. For All of Us upstream, we depend on the highways and byways and Reno Tahoe International Airport for much of our food, materials, resources, energy and transportation needs. As much as we like our spirit of "independence", we're very interdependent on one another, in one way or another.

For more information on sustainability issues for our Region, including water, energy, land use, transportation, and economic development, please visit www.aiann.org/sustainability.fx

How we do it:
greenUP! promotes development of a community identity that embraces environmental and economic sustainability as key components of the way we live, work and play.

greenUP! fosters networking of local businesses, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations through sustainability events and initiatives; and supports public institutions in choosing sustainable paths for the future.

Who we are:
greenUP! is made up of residents committed to the sustainability of our Region - a diverse group of individuals from Businesses, Government, Nonprofit Organizations, Schools, and the University and Community College System in Nevada including the Desert Research Institute (DRI) and the University of Nevada Academy for the Environment.
