Patagonia Wild & Scenic Film Festival screening a part of Earth Day Festival

Tahoe Truckee Earth Day Foundation announces the return of the Patagonia Wild and Scenic Film Festival as part of this year's Earth Day celebration. Last years near-capacity attendance spawned the growth to two venues this year: Bar One and Plaza Bar at Squaw Valley USA.

The Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival sits apart from the hundreds of festivals around the world by leaving you feeling INSPIRED and MOTIVATED to go out and make a difference in your community and the world. It's an evening of thought-provoking and often hilarious shorts you won't want to miss.

Doors open at 6pm, films start at 7pm. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door and are available at New Moon Natural Foods in Truckee and Tahoe City, and Alice's Market in Squaw Valley USA. A raffle will be held with lots of great prizes.

The Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival supports the critical work of California's most effective watershed protection organization, the South Yuba River Citizens League. SYRCL has a 23-year history of protecting the Yuba Watershed from dams, inspiring the community to become and stay involved in river issues and restoring our watershed to support healthy, wild salmon populations. Their effectiveness as an organization is based on our ability to engage people on environmental issues that affect their lives. The Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival is a natural extension of our work to inspire people to act on behalf of the environment.

In 1986 a barge from the APEX oil company spilled almost 20,000 gallons of oil off the coast of California between San Francisco and Monterey. The spill killed an estimated 10,000 seabirds, including 6,300 Common Murres. By 1988 the Murr disappeared from its breeding colony on Devil’s Slide Rock.
