Reno, NV (February 12, 2008) The 4th Annual Black Rock Rendezvous takes place Memorial Day weekend, May 24 - 26, 2008 in Gerlach and points beyond, Nevada.
Come celebrate the spectacular Black Rock Desert - High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area with three days of tours, workshops, demonstrations, hikes, music, camping and more. The Black Rock Rendezvous inspires stewardship within the region, while providing insight to its rich history and modern day use. The diversity of participating user groups makes the Black Rock Rendezvous unique in Nevada.
Cost to participate or attend is free.
All weekend, Burning Man's Will Roger and the Friends of Black Rock/High Rock host the Friends annual campout and membership drive at Cassidy Mine.
Saturday features a mini expo with various user groups and organizations, regional representatives and a special keynote speaker. There's also a raffle and short afternoon tours to nearby points of interest.
On Saturday night, the Nevada Outdoor School hosts a BBQ dinner and campfire: "Tales From the Trail" with noted experts on the region providing wit and history.
Sunday's expanded tours follow five distinct tracks: Historical, Hot Springs, Geology, Playa Land Use, and Soldier Meadows/High Rock Canyon. Planned demonstrations include rocket launches, cultural site stewardship, horsemanship and land sailing. A kids camp will entertain the young ones.
Sunday, join Friends at Cassidy Mine for their annual dinner and live music under the stars. Entertainment will be announced soon. This year features a special night-time rocket launch by AeroPac out on the Playa.
All attendees should come prepared for Leave-No-Trace camping. Lodging is also available in Gerlach. Details, including locations and tour descriptions will be posted on the web site as they become available. www.blackrockrendezvous.com
